Our Sister, Vanessa Lewis, is a Boston native who heard of Our Family Dinner through a family member. As we’re preparing for our next Boston dinner, it is always great to hear from Family members how the Dinner affects community members in the cities we serve.

I used to be jaded about Boston’s social scene, but events like Our Family Dinner have changed my perspective. As someone born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts I have found that our social scene often turns out the same faces. Events are generally held by signature promoters who have a similar following. Because of this, it can be difficult to find something new to do with new people.
My cousin, Yvette Philip, an Our Family Dinner city host, is always involved in events that have a turn out from great people. When she invited me to my first Dinner, I accepted without hesitation. Our Family Dinner has truly enhanced my feeling of connectedness to the Boston area community by facilitating an opportunity to meet folks I may not have otherwise connected with. When I attended Boston’s first Dinner, it was such a great experience! I met incredible people at the dinner, particularly because there were so many new faces.
The crowd was friendly and I definitely felt the family vibe. We all came to eat, but we were fed spiritually. The food is almost secondary, as with any family gathering. I’d encourage other Bostonians to become part of the Family because OFD is hosted by folks who have a vested interest in bringing our community together … it truly felt like a family gathering.
